The City entered into an interlocal agreement with the County to fullfil its Animal Shelter needs. The remaining amendments to the 2017 ordinance are:

Article III Section 1.5 limiting the number of domestic animals;
Article V Section 1.16 mandatory spay/neuter of unrestrained dogs and cats; and 
Article VII Section 1.27 Estray to allow livestock to roam the City unrestrained. 
The June 2018 amendment permits roosters.

Owner must present current rabies vaccine at time of pick-up of impounded dog or cat. If no current vaccination record can be provided owner must get the dog or cat vaccinated and neutered before it is released.

Basic Fees

License Fee- 

  • Dog or Cat (neutered) $5.00 
  • Dog or Cat (un-neutered) $15.00

Boarding Fee-

  • Dog or Cat $10.00 per day
  • Livestock $25.00 per day

Impound Fee-  (First Offense)

  • Dog or Cat (neutered) $20.00  
  • Dog or Cat (un-nuetered) $35.00

Partners for Pets!

On August 23, 2017, the City of Poteet Animal Control was accepted into the BISSELL Partners for Pets Program.  The City of Poteet and BISSELL have partnered with one another to allow Animal Control to be eligible to receive donations, grant funding from the BISSELL Pet Foundation and Facebook giveaways.
